Anissa Arriaga has accepted the Presidents Outstanding Student award!
As a student-athlete there are more things than just volleyball that one has to succeed at. Students from distinct departments at Cisco College are nominated for the award, and the criteria is based on the acronym H.E.A.R.T. which stands for : Honesty, integrity, engagement, academics, reliability and tenacity.
"Anissa has always been a hard worker on and off the court," Crockett said. "She has managed to maintain high grades while excelling on the court. She has battled through adversity and continues to climb in volleyball, the classroom, and life; learning tough lessons as she goes." Crockett continues, "Many may not understand her grit, but Anissa is a humble player who fights for what she wants, loves, and for those she cares for until the end."
Arriaga said she felt grateful for her nomination by Head Coach Rene' Crockett, who has impacted her life greatly. "Coach Rene's coaching methods revolve around caring about more than just volleyball, prioritizing players' mental health."
"Coach Rene' knew my struggles and all I went through, winning this award is something we did together. When I found out it was her who nominated me, I felt so sentimental. She has helped me through a lot."
Anissa will continue her playing career and education at Benedectine College in Atchison, Kansas.
