Odessa College Wrangler Classic

by Darby Wright

This past weekend, we played in our only tournament this season! We were looking to learn who we are as a team and demonstrate what we can do together. We started off the first day of this weekend with Trinity Valley Community College where we went 1-3 (25-28, 17-25, 25-27, 9-25). We realized that we still have to work on being able to battle with the pressure given by the other team. Our second game was against Garden City Community College, we won 3-1 (25-11, 20-25, 25-17, 25-18). We played great defense and came together as a team. After ending the first day of the tournament, we rested and prepared for the second half of the Wrangler Classic.

The second day of the tournament, we played one of our conference rivals, Hill College. We battled against Hill and taking them to 5 sets (22-25, 25-21, 25-20, 18-25, 9-15). Both teams fought hard and showed each other just what each team could do. Our final match of the tournament was against New Mexico Military Institute with which we went 0-3 (17-25, 20-25, 18-25). We put up a fight against NMMI and worked hard to give our all in the last game of the tournament.

Even though we came up short and went 1-3 this weekend, we gave the other teams a run for their money and gave them (and us) a preview of what we will be able to do in our conference play. As a team, I feel we will only go up from here and be able to build upon our progress that we have already made so far. Our team is filled with talented, strong players that are itching to get on the court and show the other teams what we have been working so hard for.

We have a few more games scheduled until conference games start and we are ready! Using these next games to help strengthen, educate, and build our team, we are prepared to step out as the Cisco College Volleyball team of the Spring of 2021!
