Wranglers Go 2-0 On The Week

August 4th, 2022-

The Cisco Wranglers Soccer team responded quickly after dropping their opening match of the season by dominating their opponents to go 2-0 on the week. This brings their overall record to 2-1 heading into their final matchup with DCC-North Lake on Tuesday before starting NJCAA D1 Region 5 play on Friday when they travel to Western Texas College.

Game 1 of the Week: DCC-Eastfield

The Wranglers would handle their business on the road against DCC-Eastfield, dominating the match from the beginning and downing the Harvester Bees, 6-0.

The scoring was opened by freshman Emily Green in the 3rd minute of the game, assisted from a cross by sophomore Camden Garner, both of which were their first of the season.

The next goal would have to wait until the 41st minute when Marcelle Stoller took the ball herself from midfield and weaved through a sea of defenders to slot the ball in the back of the net.

Stoller would go on to score 4 total goals in the match with assists from Emily Green and Giselle Aguilar respectivelly. This gives Stoller 5 goals on the season.

The other goal scorer for the match was Valeria Sanchez, her first of the season, in the 70th minute. She was assisted by Marcelle Stoller as well.

Coach McGibeny on the game- "I think this was great rebound match for us to come out, play on someone else's home field, and dictate the game from the start. 6 goals in the match, 4 by one individual, plus the shutout as well were great marks for us to achieve today. We can use this momentum to go into training and be even better against Cedar Valley."

Game 2 of the Week: DCC-Cedar Valley

The Wranglers returned home to Chesley Field after their win against DCC-Eastfield but kickoff would have to wait due to a long weather delay. After a stretch of thunderstorms in the area, the teams would kickoff 2 hours from the original time, but there was no hesitation to score.

It was Emily Green scoring quickly once again in the 7th minute of the game for her 2nd goal of the season off of the assist from Marcelle Stoller.

In the 22nd minute, Sara Nishiyama would score her first goal of the season as she followed up on a save by goalkeeper.

Cedar Valley would pull one goal back as they scored in the 28th minute off of a well placed shot from the top corner of the box.

Kiana Melendez would score her first career goal in the 39th minute off of corner kick taken by Wendy Ramirez.

The final goal scored in the match was the 2nd of the season for Valeria Sanchez in the 45th minute off of a double assist from Emily Guzman and Emily Green.

Coach McGibeny on the game- "We played a great game today especially considering the circumstances beforehand. We were so close to getting on the field a few different times and then weather would persist again. Our girls were dying to get out there and that showed with us again striking early in the first half. Our tempo was much better today and I think that played a huge factor in how much we held the ball and the number of opportunities we created. This is just another step forward toward us being prepared to fight once Region 5 play begins next week."
