Cruz Gets First Collegiate Goal, C.Guzman has big day as Cisco Comes Up Just Short of #7 Hill

The Cisco College women's soccer team lost to #7 Hill College 2-1 in a hot and highly entertaining Region 5 matchup on Sunday afternoon.

Celeste Guzman proved to be a big difference in the match facing 28 total shots with 18 being on frame and making 16 saves.

Hill College opened the scoring in the 6th minute with a shot slotted to the back post to take a 1-0 lead. That would be the only goal scored in the first half as both teams battled to the halftime break.

Cisco came out of the break firing on all cylinders and seemed to find a rhythm right from the start of the 2nd half.

It wasn't until 21 minutes into the half that Thaiza Goncalves was able to intercept a pass and get the ball to Adora Lumpkin-Nevarez who provided her second assist of the season to Jennifer Cruz who smashed the ball toward the near post for her first collegiate goal.

Just 8 minutes later, Hill would score the eventual game winner on a 1v1 opportunity that was put just past Guzman.

Paloma Carrizales, Summer Odom, Isabel Carreon, Wendy Ramirez, and Marta Crespo also recorded shots for Cisco.

With the loss, the Lady Wranglers fall to 1-4-1 on the season and 0-2-1 in Region 5 play. Next, they will travel down to Brenham, Tx to play Blinn College on Saturday, Sept. 25th at 2:00 PM.
